Carprofen Dosage Calculator for Dogs
Estimate the daily and per-dose carprofen amount for your dog using the standard veterinary label dose, then confirm it with your vet.
Overview
Carprofen is one of the most commonly prescribed non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for dogs, sold under brand names such as Rimadyl, Novox, and Carprieve. Vets use it to control pain and inflammation from osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia, soft-tissue injuries, and post-surgical recovery.
This calculator translates your dog's body weight and prescribed schedule into a clear daily total and per-dose amount, using the standard label dose that most veterinary product inserts follow. It's built for dog owners who want to double-check a prescription, understand what a vet has recommended, or picture how tablet sizes map to their dog — not to replace professional guidance. Because carprofen affects the liver, kidneys, and gut, the actual dose and duration always belong to your veterinarian.
How it works
- Enter your dog's body weight and choose the unit (pounds or kilograms).
- Pick the dosing schedule your vet recommended — the full dose once a day, or the same daily total split into two smaller doses.
- Click Calculate dose. The tool shows the total milligrams per day, the amount per dose, and the closest standard tablet that fits.
- Click Reset to clear everything and start over.
Nothing is calculated until you press Calculate, and no numbers appear on first load.
Formula explanation
The calculator uses the standard carprofen label dose of 4.4 mg per kilogram of body weight per day (equivalent to 2 mg per pound per day). That daily total stays the same whether it's given once or twice a day.
Total daily dose (mg) = Weight (kg) × 4.4Per dose (mg) = Total daily dose ÷ Doses per day
If you enter weight in pounds, it's first converted to kilograms (1 lb = 0.4536 kg). For a twice-daily schedule the daily total is split evenly, which works out to about 2.2 mg/kg per dose.
Practical benefits
- Sanity-check a prescription: confirm the tablet strength and count your vet gave you land near the standard dose for your dog's weight.
- Understand splits: see how a once-daily dose compares to a twice-daily schedule for the same daily total.
- Plan for tablet sizes: the tool maps the per-dose amount to the closest common tablet (25 mg, 75 mg, 100 mg) so you know what to ask for.
- Weight-change awareness: quickly re-check the dose if your dog gains or loses weight over time.
