Formula Explanation

Weight entered in kilograms is first converted with lb = kg × 2.20462. From the single dose, the tool derives:

• 25 mg tablets = single dose ÷ 25, rounded to the nearest ¼ tablet (doses too small to split accurately are directed to the liquid form instead).
• Children's liquid (2.5 mg/mL) = single dose ÷ 2.5, rounded to one decimal place.
• Total per day = single dose × number of doses (2 or 3).

The 1 mg-per-pound rule reflects real-world veterinary practice rather than a theoretical maximum, and the tool caps the modelled single dose at a conservative 50 mg for very large dogs, since most clinical guidance does not exceed that amount per administration without direct veterinary direction.
